Guatemala Day 3

More walking around and a lot of eating. My wife and I celebrated our Anniversary today and I decided to splurge by going to the nicest restaurant in town. The food was perhaps the best I have ever had and cost a “whopping” $40 including 2 drinks and tip. (Hector’s in Antigua, Guatemala)

Walking and eating, two passtimes that go hand in hand. Great photos, looks like you’re having a blast!

Actually, $40 is a freaking lot of money for a meal in Guatemala. That equates to 320Q (local currency) which is more than a lot of people make in an entire week!

Yeah, its a ton to the average Guatemalan…but to a tourist it seems affordable. When I was traveling through Honduras and Nicaragua a couple of years ago I remember seeing people that lived in twig huts and ate tortillas, rice, and beans almost every meal – that is a lot like how most of Guatemala is too. The great divide between the average hillside Guatemalan living right outside Antigua and those people who are rich enough to actually live in Antigua is quite sad.
